Rowan Katzew is an elite MMA and striking coach with decades of competitive and coaching experience across Boxing, Kickboxing, Karate, Muay Thai and MMA. Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Rowan learnt to fight out of the necessity to defend himself in a such an unforgiving environment. This led him towards martial arts and combat sports.

After becoming a multiple‑time national and international karate champion. He competed extensively in boxing & K‑1 kickboxing. He later transitioned into coaching and has worked with a host of the best fighters in the world today.

Having opened Top Primate Academy in 2014, Rowan truly honed his craft as a coach producing local and international champions out of South Africa. He moved to the UK in 2027 and has since maintained the position of head MMA coach at Fight City Gym, creating one of the strongest pro & amateur MMA teams in the UK. Rowan has worked with several elite pro fighters competing in the UFC, PFL, ONE FC, BKFC, Levels Fight League, Fightstar FC, UAE Warriors, Brave FC, EFC Worldwide, Oktagon Cage Warriors and many other international promotions.   

One of the few coaches to produce champions in professional boxing, K1, Muay Thai and MMA, Rowan has also taken fighters from their amateur days - all the way to the UFC and other top level organisations.

He prioritises dependable mechanics, repeatable session plans and a feedback‑driven coaching culture that accelerates progress while minimising injury risk. His methods emphasise progressive contact, objective video feedback and teachable cues so coaches can replicate results across different athlete levels.
